Villa El Gazayerli
Egypt- Documentary - 2018 - 13 minutes
Arabic dialogue.
"Villa El Gazayerli" is a family documentary that was commissioned by Eng. Ashraf El Gazayerli and Eng. Mounir El Gazayerli to commemorate the Bolkly family house in Alexandria. The villa building was commissioned in 1951 by Professor Doctor Mounir El Gazayerli beik (second from right), one of the founders of the faculty of medicine in the "University of Farouk the First", which was later named "The University of Alexandria". Also founder of the Pathology department where there is a grand theater in his name.
The building was a gem, not only for its aesthetics but also for its architectural and heritage value. It was designed by the renown Alexandrian architect Ferdinand Joseph Debbaneh. F. J. Debbaneh is a leading figure in the modern architectural history of Alexandria. His works include important landmarks that are still withstanding time and resisting neglection. In addition to various residential buildings, the Jesuits complex in Cleopatra district is one of his important works. Another important oeuvre is the Institution Sainte Jeanne-Antide and the Hikal building in Roshdy.
The famous emblem of Debbaneh was the fly (Debbaneh is fly in Levantine Arabic). It can be still seen on the windows of the Jesuits monastery.
